Angkor Wat Bridge Temporarily opened for Sankranta Festivities

SIEM REAP: The bridge in front of Angkor Wat will be temporarily opened to facilitate access to the temple during the Angkor Sankranta festivities from 10-23 April 2023.

In an announcement to the public and relevant authorities on 10 April, the APSARA National Authority explained its decision to open the bridge temporarily so that festivities to celebrate the year of the rabbit will run smoothly and successfully. Khmer New Year officially takes place the 14-16 April. Siem Reap and Angkor Wat in particular expect large crowds for the 10th anniversary of the Angkor Sankranta festivities which will include traditional dance, games and a garden of one million origami hearts.

The second phase of reconstructing the Angkor Wat bridge is about 90% complete and is expected to finish in 2024. The restoration project began in 2016 in collaboration with Japan’s Sofia University. The project is meant to maintain the ancient structure in its original form, adding historic value to the temple complex.
